Learning about time wasters was a major part of my time management class. The professor had us write down every activity we did for one week -- minute by minute. Now some might initially say, what a waste of time but before you do, give this process a try.
After recording for a week what you do minute by minute, organize all the different activities in categories such as sleeping, eating, reading, working, exercising, watching tv, and so on. If it was time wasted record it as such. Everyone has 168 hours per week given to them to use. Doing this time management exercise alone makes you think about whether to waste time on something since you will have to record it in that column. The exercise wasn't designed to get people to be productive every waking moment but to show exactly how much time is wasted every day. It was a real eye opener. Give it a try and see for yourself and then report back the results here. What percentage of your awake time was consumed by time wasters. NOTE: Relaxation is not bad in and of itself but too much relaxation will consume productivity time.

Wow,
Interesting Idea!
I can't imagine trying to account for all 168 hours...
Must be a tremendous amount of work! Good on you for accomplishing it...
Hi Rob
Posted a blog recently about Working Moms While we dont teach classes on it, (here is where the light bulb just went on) in order to wear all 23 hats AND be successful in our careers, we do manage time well by necessity. Good Luck to you!
Rob,
What category does AR belong in?
Stefan Why work of course!! Online networking and marketing. Who says work can't be fun?
Allison Yes your http://activerain.com/blogsview/20337/LIFE-SKILLS-REALTORS-WORKING and blogs were great!
Bill With 50+ hours of sleeping, 3 1/2+ hours eating, 3 1/2+ hours of grooming, etc. each week one is left with just over a hundred to actually keep track of. Still a lot but that was the point of the exercise. We think we are busy but in reality we more than enough time to get things done each week if we eliminate just some of our time wasters.
All Thanks for your comments.
